About the Welsh Association of Male Choirs

The Welsh Association of Male Choirs was established in 1962 when 26 choirs formed an association to collectively address the needs of Male Choirs. Since that beginning the Association has increased its membership tremendously, and exprerience has made it a much more professional body, better equipped to carry out its obligations which are:

  1. To bring together all Welsh choirs under one umbrella and to assist and advise them on any query or problem that could arise. In this respect the services of an honorary solicitor are available.
  2. To foster and promote the art of Male Voice choral music and Welsh Choral works.
  3. To liase with Educational Institutions and Cultural Societies for the practice and study of the performance of male voice choral work world-wide.

Being mindful of the competitive spirit within many choirs, the Association has promoted many competitions for male choirs and it has also liased with promoters of eisteddfodau and other music festivals to this end. The Assiociation arranges massed male voice singing festivals and many of these have been held at the Royal Albert Hall, London; St. David's Hall, Cardiff and also Bristol, Swansea and Bournemouth. Many national charities have benefited by concerts arranged on their behalf.
